First of all, please do pardon the rather curious color palette in today’s pictures. I was only able to photograph this little posy around sundown. It was a gorgeous warm-hued sky that put a pink glow and purple shadows on the mountains, while the light itself dropped lower and lower. Lovely, yes. But it was certainly not conducive to photographing flower vases. All the same, here is the very small bouquet I made today.
Of course, the big news is that I was able for the first time to pick roses for today’s vase. Two roses, in fact, and there are more on the bush. These were just open enough to pick this morning.
These buds will open to dark lavender centers. Paradise is apt to blow quickly, but until that point it is has a very elegant shape.
The other components of the vase are a deep magenta-red vinca (Catharanthus roseus) flower…
…and assorted Salvias. S. microphylla keeps the magenta-red theme going, while two slim stems of S. farinacea supply some blue. I love the way the upper stems are also dark blue and slightly furry.
I used my stoneware teardrop-shaped vase as its small mouth was a good size for the few flower stems I had available. It’s not a very big posy, but then the garden isn’t very big yet either.
Linking to In a Vase on Monday, with many thanks to Cathy for keeping this wonderful theme going, rain or shine or… ahem… sunset.
Happy Monday!
Those roses have an intriguing hue and not one I have seen in the UK. Together with the other blooms and that delightful vase, I am sure you will be enjoying your arrangement for a few days.
What a pretty little offering, Amy - you must be so thrilled to be able to pick roses again. I love the shape of your vase with its truncated base and small aperture - is it one you have made, or are they still in boxes?!
